WARLI PAINTING. ARTIST IS SHANTARAM CHINTYA TUMBADA. Shantaram Chintya Tumbada is an accomplished artist within the form of Warli art. His canvases are a reflection of the Warli community and its daily activities. A swirling line of dancers is the central image here. Men and women hold hands and dance around a man playing the tarpa, a traditional instrument that resembles a trumpet. On the two sides, one can notice villagers grinding maize, drawing water from wells and making toddy. Toddy is a local alcohol produced from the sap of palm trees. A man tapping a palm tree can be seen in the top right corner. Sparklers and firecrackers in the work suggest a festive time as well.
