RAJ KUMAR SHYAM-GOND ART-Madhya Pradesh-India-Cattle-Humans-HARMONY-HOMAGE-folklores-Music-Dance (RKS 02)
The Pola festival is a harvest festival similar to Dusshera, mainly celebrated by Gond farmers in the Indian states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. On the day of Pola, farmers decorate their bulls and thank them for their help in the farms. Pola figures or dolls are also dressed up as deities and taken around the streets on the day of the festival, sometimes mounted on wheels.
The images with intricately painted details with several cattle is a unique find for the discerning collector. The figures mounted on the canvas show how the Gonds have saved their culture over a passage of time.
This artwork is a testament to the Gond community's unique artistic expression and their ability to convey the harmony between animals and humans through folk dances, folk songs, and Gond paintings.
