The peacock plays a vital role in the tribal culture of India. For the Bhil tribe of Madhya Pradesh; they all believe that the peacock is a gift by Mother Nature to them.
In most cases, the peacock is considered as a symbol of God and bundles of peacock feathers are an attribute of many Bhil tribal deities. Bhil tribe considers the peacock as their totem, various body parts are used as medicine, and in fact, according to the folklore, it is from the peacock that they learned the art of dance! Yes, peacocks eat snakes when the opportunity presents itself. In fact, in India the word used to call a peacock is 'Mayura,' which translates as “the killer of snakes.
