Saura Art. Artist is Manas Kumar Das. Mother-Child-Manas Das is a practitioner of Saura art that is practiced by the Saura tribal community of Orissa. Seeped in rituals and popular belief systems of the tribal community, it draws heavily from the oral traditions and local folklore that has emerged as a result. Saura art gained prominence through the dedicated research and efforts of Verrier Elwin, an English born Indian anthropologist and tribal activist. Manas art work reveals its tribal affiliations in the style of the border. The precise line work and the tender theme echo his links to tribal art. The figure of the mother and child is rather fluid and bring to mind the artists contemporary tendencies in how the strokes are placed on the surface.
