Description
Warli art is a prevalent indigenous form in India and lends itself beautifully to representing various themes and motifs. Anil Chaitya Vangad paints detailed works that depict the life and culture of the Warli tribe. This particular one is divided into two sides, with a river in the middle. At the left corner of the painting are Shiva and Parvati within a mandala-like pattern. Very interestingly the artist indicates an image of the subterranean domain where the mortal remains are buried and eaten up by the ants. The rest of the canvas shows the busy life of the Warlis with the indigenous trees.
