Description
This is a highly interesting work by the Warli artist Sadashiv Mashe. He chooses to portray a work to which has a feeling of optimism. In the painting Shiva and Parvati are surrounded by enormous serpents whose images take most of the space on the raw canvas. Shiva is known as the Destroyer in Hindu mythology. The world regenerates after being destroyed, hence his role also has creative implications. He and Parvati carry the ways, containing the genesis of the entire universe. Sadashiv uses the Warli form in the most genius of ways in this work. He elevates the form from the domestic to the divine. They have a deep connection with nature and most of their religious deities are based in or around wildlife. They also are devout followers of Shiva and Parvati.
