Description
Warli art is widely considered as one of the paragons of indigenous art and culture in India. The simplistic representational style lends itself beautifully to various subject matters. The artist Sadashiv Mashe is very skilled within the form and has created a vast repertoire of diverse works. A Warli village is depicted here, its inhabitants engaged in numerous tasks. The shrine on the left seems to resembles the ant hill, alluding to the connection between man and nature that exists in the region. A tiger can be seen on top. It is an animal much respected and revered by the Warlis in their naturalistic religious practice.
