MINIATURE PAINTING BY USMAN TIRANDAZ.
Jaipur based artist Usman Tirandaz is
a modern mughal master of a sort.
His oeuvre is markedly defined by
the miniature style developed and
patronised by the Mughals in India.
Interestingly the artist traces his
ancestry to the mughal workshops of
Akbar, one of the finest Mughal patrons
of the arts. Although innovative,
the mughal workshops produced
styles that followed a visual index.
In the case of Tirandaz, he uses the
traditional style as an impetus and
uses his innovative style to transform
the recognizable motif. A master of
naturalistic flora and fauna, his works
recall the miniature tradition, but still
are distinctly different. His keen eye and attention to details
transforms life style studies into
evocative scenes that converse with
the viewer. He draws heftily from
his vivid imagination. His technique
has a marked influence of the
persianate style of painting, celebrated
prominently in Mughal miniatures.
Regardless of the rooted influences
the artist leaves ample space for
innovation. The present work depicts
a PARROT in all its splendour. A fairly
elementary rendition is transformed
into a work of art owing to the artist's
vision.
