GOND ART. ARTIST IS DHAVAT SINGH UIKEY. Dhavat Singh Uikey has created an interesting Gond art piece here. A Saja tree is one of the primary images in this work. Also considered the tree of life, it holds a lot of significance within the Gond community. A cat-like animal’s face above it represents the wild spirit of the jungle. Two people are seen next to the tree trunk talking about it. Big cats are quite common in the jungles of Madhya Pradesh and find place in the culture and iconography of the Gonds. Works produced by the artists from the community are visual narratives of their oral traditions, converting the intangible to the tangible.
