Description
Warli art is widely considered as one of the paragons of indigenous art and culture in India. The simplistic representational style lends itself beautifully to various subject matters. The artist Sadashiv Mashe is very skilled within the form and has created a vast repertoire of diverse works. A Warli village is depicted here, its inhabitants engaged in numerous tasks. The tiger on the left corner seems to rest seeing the hustle bustle in the village, alluding to the connection between man and wildlife that exists in the region. It is an animal much respected and revered by the Warlis in their naturalistic religious practice.
